What Are The Stages Of Pregnancy

A woman’s body experience many changes throughout the pregnancy period. The pregnant woman and her baby inside the womb may undergo three trimesters of pregnancy period before birth. Each trimester has three months and that is known to be the stages of pregnancy. Try to learn more on the stages of pregnancy week by week.

The 1st Trimester
Week 1 – Week 7
•The head, abdomen, chest, shoulders,  hips, knees, and elbows begin to develop.
•Formation of the ears and eyes start.
•Development of mouth and jaws outlines.
•Spine is flexible.
•Fingers, toes, legs, and arms are developing.
•Lungs are also developed.
•Intestines begin to developed.
•Internal organs are also developed.

8th -12th Week
•Eyes, ears, nose, and mouth continues to form.
•The heart begins to pump.
•The legs, arms, feet, and hands develop more rapidly.
•The internal organs begin its functions.

Week 13 – Week 16
•Eyelashes and eyebrows are developed completely.
•The fetal heart beat can be detected with a Doppler an ultrasound.
•Fetus’ weight becomes heavy as it doubles.
•Stronger muscles in the legs and arms.

The 2nd Trimester
17th  to 20th Week
•The baby inside the womb continues to grow.
•Muscles develop more rapidly and increase in muscle strength.
•Baby has very fine thin hair.

21st  to 24th Week
•Growth and development is fast.
•Sucking their thumbs is seen in the ultrasound.

Week 25 – Week 29
The lungs are now mature.
•Accumulation of fats in the skin of the  baby.
•The baby’ skin is coated with the protective layer called the “vernix”.

The 3rd Trimester
30th to 41st Week
•Vernix starts to disappear during this phase.
•They have the ability to close and open their eyes.
•The fetus takes their head down (except when they are breach).
•The head and the body of the baby is now in proportion with each other.

Here are the different stages of pregnancy. It is really important for us to know the stages of pregnancy and how it affects both the infant and the mother. As soon as the bag of water breaks , or the contractions is lesser than five minutes, the mother must go to the nearest clinic or hospital. It is essential as well to let the mother and baby to have their time together in order for them to establish rapport and strong relationship.
