How Long Does It Take To Get Pregnant? The Truth

Pregnancy MiracleWhen a couple is trying to conceive, they’re extremely excited and want to get pregnant as soon as possible.  When couples decide it’s the right time and want to know on average how long does it take to get pregnant, there are a few facts that are important for them to know.  More than anything couples need to realize that all people are different and there is no single answer on how long does it take to get pregnant.  Pregnancy is easily achieved by some and others struggle and have different issues to deal with when trying to conceive.

For the average couple under the age of thirty and where both people are healthy, it will take around four to five months to get pregnant.  The chances here are even better when the woman is on top of her cycle and knows what days are best to have intercourse.  When a woman knows what days she’s ovulating, she can make sure to have intercourse on those days and significantly improve her chances of conception.  For many people it will take over a year to conceive, and this can be extremely disheartening.

A year can feel like forever when you’re so excited and trying to start a family.  This doesn’t necessarily mean that either person has a health problem but depending on certain factors at play, this may be the cause of their problems with conceiving.  For instance if one or both are over the age of thirty, this means their fertility rate is greatly decreased and their chances of conception are less.  Smoking is an extremely bad habit that can absolutely be the reason a couple is having troubles getting pregnant.

Eating right and exercising on a regular basis is also important, to keep the body healthy and strong.  Usually doctors will start off simple by helping the couple get healthier and relax, in hopes that this will help with conception.  If not, the next step is to address the man and determine whether or not there are any problems at play on his side of things.  They will usually start with the man because the fertility tests for men are much safer than those for women.

It can certainly be frustrating for couples who want to know how long does it take to get pregnant and who are having troubles conceiving.  It seems to come so easy for some people and a lot of people even get pregnant when they weren’t even trying.  This means that a woman would be the bearer of the child, using your egg and your partner’s sperm.  There is also the option of adoption for couples having difficulty getting pregnant.

Getting pregnant can be much harder than you think. For a healthy fertile couple the normal success rate is only around 15-20%, so it's not uncommon to take some time to conceive. Infertility or subfertility (that's when it takes longer than expected to conceive) affects around one in seven couples in the UK. The usual definition of infertility is when a couple do not achieve a pregnancy after two years of regular, unprotected sex. Common cases of infertility include, ovulation problems, tubal blockage or endometriosis, male fertility problems or unexplained problems.
